School

HVAC Cleaning on the School Calendar

  • Elementary schools
  • Secondary schools
  • Independent schools
  • Colleges and universities
  • Student residences
  • Daycares and childcare centres
  • Preschools and out-of-school care

A classroom's ventilation runs all day for a room full of kids, and the BC Centre for Disease Control notes that children breathe faster and inhale more air per kilogram than adults. Recent projects include work at School District 72 (Campbell River), School District 63 (Saanich), UBC, SFU and UFV.

We plan the job with your district facilities or campus maintenance staff. Bigger work goes into the breaks, and the rest happens in the evenings when the rooms are empty.

Every job ends with a Certificate of Completion and a before-and-after photo report for the facility file: which systems and rooms were cleaned, how, and anything we noticed that needs attention. On a multi-school contract each building gets its own report, so you can file them school by school.

Planning Duct Cleaning Around a School Year

Every district sets its own calendar

Under the School Act, each board of education sets its own school calendar, from the first and last day of the year to the non-instructional days. Break dates can differ between districts, so we book from your calendar and put air handlers and whole-building jobs into summer or a long break.

Childcare doesn't stop for summer

Many daycares and out-of-school care programs run through July and August, so there's no empty month to work in. When the building is in use, we clean in the evenings and on weekends, a few rooms at a time, and clear our equipment out before the morning drop-off.

Unit ventilators in the classrooms

Many schools heat and ventilate each classroom with a unit ventilator, the cabinet under the windows. The cabinet, coil and drain pan collect dust and debris like any air handler. We clean the units as well as the ductwork that serves them.

Ready before smoke season

The BC Centre for Disease Control's checklist for schools asks for building ventilation and filtration to be maintained to design specifications before wildfire season, and recommends MERV 13 or higher filters during smoke events where the equipment can take them. A summer cleaning of the coils and ductwork takes care of the cleaning side of that maintenance while the building is empty.

What We Clean in Schools and Campus Buildings

We clean to the NADCA ACR Standard. Scope for each building is written up and agreed with your facilities team before work starts.

  • Supply, return and general exhaust ductwork, cleaned with HEPA-filtered negative-air vacuuming and compressed-air agitation
  • Classroom unit ventilators and induction units: cabinet, coil, drain pan and internal components, cleaned with HEPA vacuum and compressed air
  • Air handling units, make-up air units and rooftop units serving gyms, libraries and classroom wings, including accessible coils and internal surfaces
  • Diffusers, return and exhaust grilles, VAV boxes and reheat coils, power wiped and air washed
  • Washroom exhaust fans and their ductwork, cleaned to restore exhaust airflow
  • Common dryer exhaust ductwork in student residences, including rooftop runs and terminations
  • Disinfectant-deodorizer treatment after cleaning, with Benefect Decon 30

How We Work

Our team is forklift and rope access certified, so rooftop units, high-ceiling ductwork and industrial ventilation are all in scope.

  1. Site Review & Scheduling

    • We walk the site or review drawings before quoting, and plan the work around your occupants: nights, weekends or phased by floor.
  2. Protection & Safety

    • Drop cloths, corner guards and signage go up first. Our crews follow lockout/tag-out and confined-space procedures and are WorkSafeBC compliant.
  3. Source-Removal Cleaning

    • HEPA-filtered negative-air vacuuming and compressed-air agitation through supply, return and exhaust ductwork, to the NADCA ACR Standard.
  4. Equipment & Components

    • AHUs, MAUs and RTUs, coils, VAV boxes, diffusers and grilles cleaned as scoped. New access openings are closed to SMACNA and UL 181 requirements.
  5. Certificate & Photo Report

    • Every job ends with a Certificate of Completion and a before-and-after photo report for your facility file: what was cleaned, where, and anything we noticed that needs attention.

Questions

Duct Cleaning for Schools, Colleges & Daycares: Questions

Get a quote
Can the work be done over spring break?

Yes. Spring break gives us a short run of empty days, so we scope what fits in that window and move the rest to the summer or to evenings during term.

Can you work with the district's maintenance department?

Yes. We plan scope, access and system shutdowns with your maintenance or plant operations staff, and they get the certificate and photo report for each building when we finish.

Do you clean classroom unit ventilators?

Yes. We clean the cabinet, coil, drain pan and internal components with a HEPA vacuum and compressed air, plus the ductwork that serves each unit. A count of units per building helps us quote accurately.

What do you use to sanitize ductwork in a daycare?

On request, after the source-removal cleaning, we apply Benefect Decon 30 through the system. It's a plant-based disinfectant registered with Health Canada, and it's the same product we use in hospital and clinic work.

How is a school or campus job priced?

Each building is quoted on its own after a site review or a look at the mechanical drawings. Send us your building list and break dates, and we'll get back to you within an hour to set up a walkthrough.
